Schawinsky, Xanti
(1904 – 1979)

Schawinsky was born in Basil, Switzerland and attended the Bauhaus and belonged to the circle of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius. He moved to the United States and was invited to Black Mountain College by Josef Albers in 1936 as an instructor and the Museum of Modern Art in New York exhibited his work. He also designed the North Carolina Pavilion at the 1939, World’s Fair in New York.
