Moore, Susan
1926-2013

Moore was born in Williamston, NC in 1926. She received her bachelor’s degree from Salem College and in the 1940’s studied at Black Mountain College with Josef Albers and Jacob Lawrence. Moore was one of the few North Carolinians to study at Black Mountain College.

Moore was exhibiting her work in Atlanta in 1948 and had her first solo show in New York in 1950. She was included in several group exhibitions in New York, Paris, and other European cities in the 1950’s.

Moore’s silverpoints refuse confinement. The core of her art reflects her love for land and nature. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh and the Asheville Art Museum and in numerous private collections.
